What happens when you disobey God?

I will start with this story. It is the true story of a man called ‘Ajayi the tailor.” Ajayi he had a girlfriend whose name was Bose. He killed the for money rituals and became very rich afterwards.
He had so much money, he started building houses all over the city. We later learnt that people that rented those houses from him could not live in the houses because in middle of the night, the spirit of the murdered girlfriend will always come to hunt them.
In an attempt to make God happy with him, Ajayi started using his blood money to build to churches in the city. And gave cash offering to support the work of God.
But things don’t work like that with God.
The bible says that God is not delighted in our sacrifices, in our offerings, in our tithes: all He is interested in is: “obedience”. Obedience coupled with sacrifice is what is acceptable by God.
In 1sam 15:8-24, Saul was sent on an errand by God. He went on the errand but did not do as God told him to do. When Prophet Samuel confronted him, he acknowledged he obeyed the voice of the people rather than obeying the voice of God.
This is unlike what Peter and John said when they were confronted by the elders of their time. The elders told the apostles never to preach in the name of Jesus Christ. Peter’s reply was: ”Judge it yourself whether to obey God or to obey man.”
Our problems as Christians, today, is that we are willing to obey men rather than obey God. This is because we don’t see God, so we take Him for granted. Or maybe we see Him as a God of mercy who will always pardon us after we have disobeyed. We have forgotten that God though can bear t is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God
Our problems as Christians, today, is that we are willing to obey men rather than obey God.
What is disobedience to God?
To have an understanding of the phrase ‘disobedience to God’, it will be good for us to understand what ‘obedience to God’ actually means.
Obedience to God is the practical acceptance of the authority of God. This include submission to Him and expressing that submission in action. To be obedient is to be in agreement with God. It’s to be in consonance with God. Amos 3:3 says can two work together except they be agreed? If they don’t agree as per the time and condition of their working together, then they cannot be together.
Disobedience therefore is the rejection of God’s instruction and His word. It’s the rejection of God’s counsel or instruction. When you disobey God, you dishonor him. In 1sam 2:30, the children of Eli disobeyed the instruction of God as touching the sacrifice and God decided to kill them in Chapter 4 of 1 Samuel.
So, what happens when you disobey God?
1. God rejects you.
When you disobey God, you reject the person of God. The person of God is the Word of God. So when you disobey God, you have rejected the word of God.
What happens? God rejects you too. Prophet Samuel told Saul: “I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.”
Saul lost his position, power, relevance and influence. Those are the things you lost when you disobey God.
2, God will not direct your paths
When you disobey God, you are leaning on your own understanding. When God gives you instruction and you don’t carry it out. You are relying on your own knowledge on what you know.
Prov 3:5-6 counsels: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Somebody said” The meaning of “He will direct your paths” in Proverbs 3:6 is to make them straight and even, pleasant and prosperous.
When lean on your own understanding, you are not trusting God. And when you are not trusting God, you are not acknowledging Him in all your ways.
What happens? He will NOT direct your paths.
3. God denies you access to Him
When you disobey God, you are rejecting Gods knowledge. God that created the heavens and the earth knows everything about it. So when He gives you instruction and you don’t carry it out, you are rejecting the knowledge of God.
Hosea 4:6 says: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
Rev 1:6 says Christ has “made us kings and priests unto God and his Father,” and in I Pet 2:9 we learnt we are his royal priesthood.
“In Old Testament times, priests offered sacrifices on behalf of the children of Israel. They stood as intermediaries between God and the people. But through Christ, we can now come directly to God.
Going back to Hosea 4:6. God says “because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for me”
This means you can’t come directly to God anymore. Access denied.
